WriteNow! Programmer qualifies for automotive safety standard ISO 26262 and IEC61508

Algocraft WriteNow! programmers have been qualified, by a third part laboratory, as ISP universal programmers compliant with automotive projects that require the safety standard ISO 26262 and IEC61508.

The international standard ISO26262 known as “Road vehicles – Functional safety”, defined by the International Organization for Standardization, take care of the functional safety for automotive equipment applicable throughout the lifecycle of all automotive electronic and electrical safety-related systems devices.

The standard ISO 26262 is a reworking of the Functional Safety standard IEC 61508 for Automotive Electric/Electronic Systems.

The validation activity on WriteNow! resulted with the issuing of 2 documents that are available for our partners under request: Tool Chain Classification Report (TCCR) and Tool Safety Manual (TSM).

Tool Chain Classification Report

This is a Tool Chain Classification Report (TCCR). This TCR comprises four integral parts:

▪ Description of the evaluation method

▪ Definition of the evaluated tool chain

▪ Determination of the tool impact

▪ Determination of the tool classification level

The maximum safety level of this classification is: ASIL D (ISO 26262).

The TCR also contains the binary classification of potential tool errors: critical errors that cannot be detected in this tool chain and uncritical errors with a high probability of mitigation.

Tool Safety Manual

This document is a Tool Safety Manual (TSM) that describes the guidelines on the use of WriteNow! in safety-relevant development projects, such that it is in compliance with  safety standards just as [ISO26262] and [IEC61508].

Tool safety is achieved in three steps:

1. Classification driven by the analysis of the potential errors of the used tools and features

2. Qualification1 that may exclude some potential errors

3. Safe usage of WriteNow! and update checking of known bugs, as detailed in this TSM.
